For sheer beauty of design, it’s hard to beat the Roam Vagabond. It sports a slightly more dome like roof and a simple elegance that is appealing to look at.
But it’s not just a pretty tent, the Roam Vagabond is built to withstand even the harshest conditions. It can safely claim to be completely rain proof.
Not only can it survive tough conditions, but it can keep you comfortable while it keeps out the elements. The 3” luxury mattress and anti-condensation mat ensure a comfy, dry sleep while a storm is raging.
It is big enough to accommodate 3 people comfortably.
The Vagabond also provides versatility in the form of annexes that can give you extra space, and importantly standing room.
While not as ridiculously easy to assemble as the OVS Bushveld, the Vagabond only takes 3-5 mins to set up. Incredibly quick compared to traditional tents.
For our money this is the best value soft shell Ford Escape roof top tent.

Space is one of THE most important things when you go camping, and the Nomadic 4 has oodles of it. This is the roof top tent designed for families.
The standard tent is already gigantic with closed dimensions of 75" W x 47" L x 14 H. Easily enough for 3 adults and a child.
It also comes with the option to add on an annex which can be used for additional sleeping or as a changing room. This is a BIG ONE as roof top tents are difficult to change in!
OVS have not sacrificed features for space in the Nomadic 4. It still comes with the 3” memory foam mattress, adjustable ladder, insulated base, and plenty of storage pockets.
The Nomadic 4 does have a couple of niggles worth mentioning. It’s not as nimble as its more compact hard-shell cousins, assembling in 7- 10 minutes. Its flappy design makes it prone to catch the wind and making a bit of a racket.

OVS TMBK 3 makes a good first foray into overlanding. It is more than adequate for most conditions the weekend traveller would be exposed to. It just doesn’t have the build for extreme conditions.
The TMBK achieves its affordable price by minimising frills rather than compromising on materials. What it does have onboard is high quality, it just doesn’t have everything you might want.
Never fear though, most features the TMBK 3 is missing can be bought as extras. Consider an anti-condensation mat if you do a lot of cold camping ($150 avg.).
Also look at investing in additional padding to boost the 2.5” mattress. Nothing worse than feeling your hip bruising against the hard base.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the space in these budget RTT’s – more than sufficient for 2 adults and 1 child.
Setup time is a drawback, taking up to 10 minutes, though it is not complicated. It’s universal mounting system also make installation straight forward.
